MEC Business Promotion Bahrain Business Group - 1999 MEC worked for the Bahrain Embassy in London to promote economic ties between the two countries in key sectors including telecom, IT, financial services, training, energy and tourism. African Investment Summit - Addis Ababa MEC supported the holding of the first pan-African investment summit which was held in Addis Ababa. Libya at the Crossroads The MEC Libya Crossroads Scenario Workshop sought to help interested parties - particularly commercial companies, law firms, banks and major consultancies - to gain a better understanding of what the forces at work are and what the possible outcomes could be. The workshop gave participants a better insight into the domestic and international pressures affecting their future plans. Publications support for business promotion in specific markets Libya at the Cross Roads Report "Libya 2001 Business Report" which was published on February 2001 analyses the new opportunities arising in a wide range of sectors since UN sanctions have been lifted. These include: oil and gas; civil aviation and ports; infrastructure projects such as water, electricity and railways; and tourism, training and consumer goods including food. Co-authored by Oliver Miles, CMG - Chairman of MEC and the last British ambassador to Libya and Tom Miles - an energy research student and analyst specializing in emerging markets. £500 New Business Opportunities in Syria Report In support of companies seeking new business opportunities in Syria following the death of Pres Hafez Asad, MEC produced a report entitled "New Business opportunities in Syria".
