Dear Reader,

 

This is MEC’s latest Iran Scenarios Newsletter on the major developments concerning news in Iran.

This month Iran and Gazprom have received an agreement to cooperate in the development of gas and oil fields as well as in investment and exploratory studies. In The last Iranian year foreign firms started investing in Iranian water. Iran is open for talks on nuclear and other issues if they don’t violate the countries rights.

Pakistani, Indian ministers begin talks on Iran gas pipeline

Pakistani and Indian oil minister Friday opened talks on the multi-billion dollar gas pipeline projects from Iran to meet their fast growing energy needs, officials said.

Pakistan Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources and the Indian Oil Minister Morli Deora Pakistani minister Khwaja Asif will try to resolve the issue of transit fee, the officials told IRNA.

U.N. official to visit Iran again for nuclear talks

The U.N. nuclear watchdog’s top investigator will arrive in Tehran next week to hold more talks over Western allegations the country had studied nuclear bomb designing, a news agency reported on Friday.

Iran, Gazprom sign oil and gas memorandum

(April 23, 2008)

 

The Iranian government and Russian energy giant Gazprom have reached an agreement on oil and gas cooperation, the national Iranian oil company (NIOC) said on Wednesday.

 

"Iran and Gazprom have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the development of oil and gas fields, as well as investment and exploratory studies" NIOC Managing Director Seifollah Jashnsaz said in an Iranian TV broadcast.

Total to enter deal with NIOC in defiance of politics

(April 22, 2008)

French Total company will go along with Iran in its LNG project in defiance of sanctions or tough actions.

"Total is a private company and we respect regulations of the countries with which we work... Our prime duty is providing energy to the country (Iran). What politicians decide is not our concern. We observe the rules, regulations and laws (of the host country)," Total Vice President in Middle East, Iran, for exploration and production Andre Goffart told IRNA.

Edison Planning Drilling for Iran’s Dayyer Field, Quadrino Says

Edison SpA, Italy’s second-largest power utility, is still working on the exploration plan for Iran’s Dayyer field and hasn’t started drilling there yet, Chief Executive Officer Umberto Quadrino said today.

Iran warns companies on South Pars
(April 20, 2008)

An Iranian oil ministry official says the deadline set for Royal Dutch Shell and Total is set in stone and will not be delayed.

Hossein Noqrekar Shirazi, Iran’s deputy oil minister for international affairs, said if the partners backtrack, we will turn to other companies to develop the South Pars gas-field project, like what we did in Japan’s IPEX case.

StatoilHydro to Start Iran Gas Production This Summer

Iran says open for talks on nuclear and other issues

(April 16, 2008)

 

Iran is ready for negotiations on nuclear and other issues provided such talks do not violate the country’s rights, the president said on Wednesday.

 

But Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, showing uncharacteristic restraint, told a rally he would not address Iran’s nuclear row with the West in detail and would save his comments for another occasion.

China to invest in Iran gas sector

(April 13, 2008)

 

Tehran and Beijing have begun a new round of talks on the development of Iran’s gas sector, says an Iranian deputy foreign minister. Following the two countries’ agreement on developing the Yadavaran oilfield in southern Iran, China has voiced interest in making new investments in the country’s gas sector, said Mohsen Talaei, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs.

Iran installs three more nuclear cascades: IRNA
